Companies That Offer Health Insurance For Part-time Employees

1. Costco

Part-time employees at Costco are entitled to full benefits starting the first day of the second month following 450 eligible paid hours, except for Hawaii, where part-time employees are eligible the first day of the month after four weeks of service, during which they worked a minimum of 20 hours per week. Employees that are not eligible for benefits include the following:

√ Seasonal or utility employees, except in Hawaii
√ Limited or temporary part-time employees, except in Hawaii
√ Temporary employees or interns, also with the exception of Hawaii
Employees participating in the Costco college student retention program
The Costco health plan includes vision, dental, medical, disability, life and accident insurance, among others. It also includes a prescription drug program.

2. United Parcel Service (UPS)

United Parcel Services is one of the companies that offer health insurance for part-time employees. Eligible part-time UPS employees can participate in TeamstersCare coverage, which provides numerous benefits such as health insurance. To qualify, part-time UPS employees must work at least 225 hours, but no more than 400 hours, during a three-month eligibility determination period. Available part-time benefits include the following:

√ Medical care and hospitalization
√ Prescription drugs and pharmacy
√ Dental
Vision
√ Hearing
√ Behavioral health
√ Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
√ Weekly disability insurance, life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance are not included in the UPS part-time employee benefits package.

3. Whole Foods

Whole Foods still offers health insurance to part-time employees. Part-time workers need to put in at least 30 hours per week to have access to health insurance. The cutoff is 20 hours per week, this means that going forward, fewer part-time Whole Foods employees will have access to health benefits.

4. REI

REI employees who average more than 20 hours of work per week qualify for the REI Flex Plan. REI covers the majority of the cost of this healthcare coverage plan for its employees, and it pays for the full cost of employees’ life and disability coverage. Additional coverages, such as orthodontia, vision care and long-term care are available for employee purchase. Those who work less than 20 hours and do not qualify for the REI Flex Plan are given guidance on how to navigate the external health insurance marketplace.

5. Staples

Staples is one of the companies that offer health insurance for part-time employees, it provides a wide array of benefits to its part-time workers after 90 days of working. Some of the coverage Staples provides to part-time employees includes the following:

√ Dependent life
√ Accidental death
√ Short-term disability insurance

Part-time associates at Staples are also eligible to participate in the company’s 401(k) plan.

6. Starbucks

Starbucks is one of the companies that offer health insurance for part-time employees in the US. It offers its part-time employees a wide range of benefits. To qualify, hourly workers must put in at least 240 hours over a three-consecutive-month period. Upon qualification, part-time workers are entitled to the following benefits:

8. JPMorgan Chase

JPMorgan Chase defines its part-time workers as those working at least 20 hours per week but fewer than 40. JPMorgan Chase part-time employees qualify for benefits on the first day of the month after they reach 60 days of employment with the firm. The JPMorgan Chase Medical Plan includes automatic enrollment in the prescription drug program and access to a Medical Reimbursement Account.

9. Activision Blizzard

Activision Blizzard provides benefits to its part-time employees, but you must work at least 30 hours per week, which is more than the 20 hours required by some other firms. Part-time employees are only eligible after six months of employment. Medical benefits include vision and dental.
